GAME THEORY / RESEARCHER PROFILE
Thomas Schelling
Strategic conflict • Credible commitments • Focal points
About this scholar
Schelling studied bargaining, deterrence, credible threats and coordination. The Strategy of Conflict (1960) showed that conflict and cooperation often coexist, and that commitments can change an opponent’s incentives. He shared the 2005 Nobel Memorial Prize.
Example in practice
